Angie Chen Button Endorses Randy Dunning

(Garland TX) - Underscoring the shallowness and insincerity of negative attacks by liberal Democrat donor Angie Chen Button, The Randy Dunning Campaign today released an endorsement by Angie Chen Button in Dunning's most recent campaign to the Garland City Council (see April 4, 2005 email below). Despite her newfound objections to Dunning's record on the Garland City Council, Ms. Button also contributed $250 to Dunning's council campaign in 2005, long after the incidents she and others allege in her recent smear campaign.

In a 2005 vote affirming Dunning's conservative leadership, Randy was honored to win re-election with 65% of the vote, generating one of the highest citizen turnouts ever. Furthermore, Dunning's peers on city council (including several of Ms. Button's supporters) elected him Mayor Pro-Tem of the 10th largest city in Texas.

Dunning said, "All of these attacks are a desperate attempt to rescue Ms. Button's campaign which is sinking from the weight of her contributions and decade-long support for liberal Dallas County Democrats. Rank and file Republicans are very disturbed about her record of working to defeat Sen. John Cornyn, Congressman Pete Sessions, and instead supporting Democrats Ron Kirk, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, Sen. Royce West, Rep. Terry Hodge, and even former Hillary Clinton staffer Regina Montoya Coggins. Ms. Button's endorsement and financial support of my most recent campaign are clear evidence of the political expediency of these attacks, and evidence that she will say or do anything to get elected. Not only do the voters of HD 112 not believe her attacks, Angie Chen Button herself clearly doesn't."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
March 20, 2008

Former Republican Majority Leader Dick Armey
Endorses Randy Dunning;

More Key GOP Leaders Endorse RNC National Committeeman Bill Crocker,
Former RPT Vice Chairman David Barton Endorse

(Garland TX) - Continuing a string of momentum-building conservative endorsements by the Dunning campaign, Former U.S. House Majority Leader and Freedom Works Chairman Dick Armey today announced his endorsement of Randy Dunning in the March 8th Republican primary runoff. Dunning also continued to secure key conservative endorsements from Republicans leaders increasingly concerned about Angie Chen Button’s long history of support for liberal Democrats.

In a message to Republicans residing in HD 112, Leader Armey said “There are major differences in the April 8th runoff. I urge you to support Randy Dunning, the only real Republican who is a conservative and who has always stood with Republicans when it mattered. He will not let us down.”

Armey currently serves as Chairman of Freedom Works, where he has led a series of high-profile battles against higher taxes at the state and federal level. He served as Majority Leader for the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 until 2003.

RNC National Committeeman for Texas Bill Crocker joined Mr. Armey in endorsing Dunning. Crocker said, “Republicans in Richardson and Garland face a clear choice between Randy Dunning, a champion of conservative principles, and his opponent, who has donated thousands of dollars to some of the most liberal Democrats in North Texas. I urge conservatives to return to the polls on April 8th to elect Randy Dunning”

David Barton, former Vice Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, also commented on this race: “Angie Chen Button actually has a record of working AGAINST Republicans. Not only did she contribute to liberal Democrat Ron Kirk when he ran for U. S. Senate against Sen. John Cornyn, but she also contributed to the Democrat who ran against U. S. Representative Pete Sessions. Randy Dunning is a strong conservative Republican who has long record of working hard in the grass roots to advance conservative principles and values; in fact, he was even serving as a precinct chairman when he decided to run for this seat. Randy understands that to keep voters looking to Republicans, we must continue to offer principled, conservative leadership that protects both the pocketbooks and values of ordinary Texans.”

Dunning has previously been endorsed by key conservative legislators from Dallas County and across North Texas including State Sen. Bob Deuell, Rep. Jim Jackson, Rep. Jodie Laubenberg, Rep. Ken Paxton, Rep. Betty Brown, Rep. Dan Flynn, Rep. Bryan Hughes, Rep. Phil King, and Rep. Tan Parker. Additionally, he has been endorsed by RNC Committeewoman Denise McNamara, Former Texas GOP Chairman Tom Pauken, Texas Eagle Forum President Cathie Adams, and almost seventy-five percent of the precinct chairs in HD 112. Dunning also secured the endorsement of Texans for Fiscal Responsibility/Empower Texans PAC, Texas Right to Life, and Young Conservatives of Texas.

Randy Dunning Announces Endorsements from Overwhelming Majority of Republican Precinct Chairs
23 of 32 Grass Roots Leaders – More than 70% - Publicly Endorse Conservative Candidate

(Garland) – The Randy Dunning for State Representative campaign today announced that Dunning has scored key endorsements from more than 70% of the Republican Precinct Chairs in HD 112, support which will be critical in turning out the Republican base for the April 8 runoff (see attached list at end of release). Continuing his growing momentum as the true conservative candidate, Dunning was endorsed by 23 of the 32 chairmen in voting precincts which currently have Republican chairs.

Dunning said, “With the support of grass roots Republicans, we are working hard to secure a victory for conservative principles. Republican precinct chairs know their precincts like no one else, and I am honored that so many of them have placed their trust and confidence in me.”

Eddie Dees, Republican Chair for Precinct 1701 who supported Jim Shepherd in the March 4th election, said, “It has come down to a choice between someone who has a long history of working at the grass roots level and someone who has worked against Republicans in two key races when it really mattered. When John Cornyn faced Ron Kirk, and when Pete Sessions was challenged by a liberal Hillary Clinton staffer - Angie Chen Button chose to side with the Democrats. We can’t depend on her to represent our conservative values in Austin.”

Chris Davis, SD 16 State Republican Executive Committeewoman and Precinct 1709 Republican Pct Chair said “I have worked with Randy Dunning in the Republican party of Texas for nearly 20 years. He is steady, courageous and a tribute to our party. He stands firm for our pro-life family values and is not intimidated by power & patronage. I will be proud to have Randy Dunning representing me in Austin.”

Jay Pierce, Dallas County 2005 Republican Precinct Chair of the Year and Precinct Chair for 2107 said “Randy Dunning will work to ensure that the State of Texas takes all actions possible to secure our border and discourage illegal immigration.”

Dunning has previously been endorsed by key conservative legislators from Dallas County and across North Texas including State Sen. Bob Deuell, Rep. Jim Jackson, Rep. Jodie Laubenberg, Rep. Ken Paxton, Rep. Betty Brown, Rep. Dan Flynn, Rep. Bryan Hughes, Rep. Phil King, and Rep. Tan Parker. Dunning Challenges Angie Chen Button to
Four Community Debates,
Explain Contributions to Liberal Democrats

(Garland) – Despite being dramatically outspent more than 4 to 1 by his runoff opponent, Republican Randy Dunning came within 320 votes of Angie Chen Button in the race to replace retiring Fred Hill. Dunning immediately called for a series of debates with Chen-Button.

Dunning said, “I ask my opponent to join me in a series of debates over the next four weeks so that voters can hear our views on the important issues facing our state. Voters must have the opportunity to judge for themselves, in an unfiltered format, which candidate best represents their views and hear how each candidate will represent them in Austin. I believe conservatives also deserve an explanation of Ms. Chen Button’s numerous contributions to liberal Democrats who have worked to defeat key Republicans like Sen. John Cornyn and Congressman Pete Sessions”.

Official records on file with the Texas Ethics Commission, as well as federal election records, document that Ms. Button has a long history of donating to liberal Democrats in Dallas County - Democrats who have worked to defeat some of our finest Republican candidates. Ms. Button has donated six (6) times to liberal Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, and has also donated to liberal Democrat State Representative Terri Hodge and liberal Democrat State Senator Royce West. In the all-important race to choose Sen. Phil Gramm’s replacement, Angie Chen Button donated $1000 to Democrat Ron Kirk against John Cornyn. In one of the most important congressional races ever in Dallas County, Angie Chen Button worked to defeat Congressman Pete Sessions, donating $1000 to his opponent – Democrat Regina Coggins Montoya, a former staffer for Bill and Hillary Clinton.

“We were clearly outspent, but we were not outworked. Most importantly, we presented a platform of lower taxes, limited government, and a conservative voice for our values. I am humbled that the voters responded, and I look forward to debating Angie Chen-Button across the community.”

Dunning emerged as the candidate supported by both grass-roots leaders in the district as well as key conservative leaders. Based on the strength of his conservative convictions and his record of accomplishment in Garland, Dunning earned all major conservative endorsements in the first round of the election including State Rep. Jodie Laubenberg (a former Richardson resident), RNC Committeewoman Denise McNamara, Former Texas GOP Chairman Tom Pauken and a blue-chip list of respected grass roots and community leaders. Dunning was also endorsed by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility and Texas Right to Life.

Randy Dunning is the former Mayor Pro-Tem of Garland, a former GOP Precinct Chair and long-time Republican leader in his community. Randy was appointed to serve on State Senator Bob Deuell’s School Finance Advisory Committee, as well as the North Central Texas Council of Governments Emergency Preparedness Planning Council. He has worked in the cities of Garland and Richardson for over 20 years and is currently a Principal Software Engineer at Rockwell Collins Richardson. Randy is married to his wife of 13 years, Karen, and together they have four daughters.
